The Bureau of Family Health works with communities and statewide partners to identify gaps in Louisiana’s maternal and child health policies. Through cooperative studies and reports, the Bureau of Family Health policy team pinpoints and publicizes important opportunities to improve family health across the state.
The Bureau supports many key Boards, Commissions, and Councils that focus on family health in Louisiana. Each of these groups works to assess emerging health concerns, identify opportunities to improve, and recommend strategies to make Louisiana a healthier place to live, learn, grow, and work.
Assists with operational oversight and funding determination for school-based health centers across Louisiana.
Convenes public health and community agencies to improve systems of care for children in Louisiana.
Reviews laws, regulations, guidelines, policies, and procedures that impact maternal & perinatal care.
Reviews all deaths due to domestic abuse and recommends policies to protect victims and prevent future deaths.
Reviews and approves doula registration, as well as supporting insurance reimbursement for doula services.
Offers advice regarding services for D/deaf or hard of hearing infants and for babies at risk for hearing loss.
Makes recommendations for the ongoing operation of the Louisiana Birth Defects Monitoring Network.
Ensures, provides, and promotes services for people who are D/deaf, DeafBlind, or hard of hearing.
A network of perinatal providers, public health experts, and patient advocates working to improve birth outcomes.
Ensures sickle cell services reach all affected persons in Louisiana and helps establish local service boundaries.
Offers expert clinical recommendations to address the needs of Louisianans living with rare diseases.
